Escalante 1L7 PIREP Request

With Slowhawk back in AK, I'm not sure how to get info regarding the current camp/lounge/car situation at 1L7. Would very much appreciate getting info from someone who has recently visited.
Thx

Re: Escalante 1L7 PIREP Request

as of Oct18 - all in good shape, shelter has microwave, fridge, bbq, firepit with wood; 2 small tent spots, lounge attached to house has microwave, shower; car available with call to get lockbox code - a great setup thanks to RAF & others. Peakaboo/Spooky slot canyons are lots of fun - shuttle available from http://www.shuttleescalante.com/

Thanks for the PIREP. Headed over from 1L8 on Monday. The RAF did a great job with it. Can only hope whoever caretakes will continue the way Slowhawk did.

Re: Escalante 1L7 PIREP Request

We spoke with the caretaker back in August when we stayed a few days. He was only temporary. I hope they're able to find someone good to keep it in good shape. It's a nice place for base camp.

Re: Escalante 1L7 PIREP Request

As far as i know, everything is still intact. The city was to take over the mowing and a local retired guy (Fred Spencer, who owns the white 172 on the flight line) said he would look after things. If you call Sphere One in Cedar City who owns the courtesy car, they will "reserve" it for you and give you it's statis.

There are actually 5 campsites, though they may not all be maintained and some posts at one campsite if you want to put up hammocks. There are tools (rake, hoe, shovel) in the covered space as well as a walk behind weed eater that i donated when i left, please feel free to do some upkeep if you have time.

If everyone that enjoys the site leaves it in better condition than they found it we'll have a great place to go for a long time. Thanks for all you did with it Chris.

I'm here now and all looks great. The car works and the shelter is clean. BTW - stopped in at the Boulder Airstrip and found it in good shape. A couple rain ruts, but easy to miss.

Same here Jan. We hope to bump into you both again. Today took a friend out to a Dirty Devil and Happy Canyon. Tomorrow is a big hiking day near 1L7. The next day we move over near the Needles. Having a blast in Utah. Keep us in mind for a meet up for airplane camping in a Utah or Idaho.
