EScoooters in the Back of a 180

I've seen several posts on the 180 Facebook page of EBikes in the back of a 180.

They look like a very tight fit, so I've started to look into getting a pair of e scooters in the back.

Has anyone done this yet with any success? I've been looking for ones that have good power, battery life, and low weight.

Interesting 3 point folding system:

Rather than paying 1100$ per scooter I'm going to look at doing an Alibaba purchase to Seattle, please let me know if interested there may be some group savings.

Here's what I carry. It kicks ass. But heavier than a scooter.

Electric scooters are like most things, you get what you pay for. Be prepared to pay well over 1 grand, close to 2 even, for a quality machine that will last. Plus have decent range and speed. This outfit https://lunacycle.com/luna-apocalypse/ is where I'd shop for a scooter, and where I got all of my 3 different ebike conversion kits. You can get a cheap toy, or a decent ride that will also be safer to carry in an airplane.

One tip: if the ones you are looking at don't clearly state the maker of the battery (Panasonic and Samsung are the brands you want) I can guarantee they will be cheap Chinese knock offs.

Re: EScoooters in the Back of a 180

I hauled a onewheel for awhile. Its a fun toy and keeps your hands free to carry stuff. However, it feels dangerous, HEAVY, and awkward to stow and carry. I did not feel welcome on an electric rideable in most places on the ramp. Other airplane owners get nervous and was kicked out of some places for riding a "skateboard."
A scooter appears more innocuous but they are all longer than they are appear in pictures and hard to find something decent under 45 pounds. If there was one with some shock absorption, around 20 pounds, and a little shorter I'd be game.

I have a ninebot mini which is a segway mini
different than the full size , no handlebar but a stem sticking up between your knees for right / left

400 bucks , maybe 60 lbs
10 mile range top speed is 12 mph

folds small

for another 799 you can make it a gokart

Re: EScoooters in the Back of a 180

Nice find Zane. Note they specify the cells used, an indicator that they are selling a quality product and not a toy. It's a monster battery in size also. But three times the price of the Luna Apocalypse scooter, and I'm not sure of the utility of it, don't think I need that much range. Like having 80 gallons of fuel in my S-7! The weight of any of these things is "what it is," you want good range with some and weight carrying capability, it's going to weigh. At least until battery tech takes another quantum increase in performance. I am still constantly amazed how far i can go on any of my 3 e bikes, even after several years of riding them.

I was at a Chevy dealership the other day, looking at a used Rav4 hybrid and also a new Chevy Bolt, and the sales guy was zipping around the lot and inside the showroom on a mini Segway. That seemed the perfect application for that device, and the guy had it totally wired. At one point he headed toward a flight of stairs at cruising speed, and I thought NO WAY, but right at the last second he came to smooth stop and seamlessly transitioned to walking up, I almost started applauding.

The price is enough to choke a goat. That's about what I paid for a brand new 250 motocross bike 20 years ago.

Re: EScoooters in the Back of a 180

Indeed, and why I say Luna Cycles is by far the best bang for anyone's e related buck. The owners are true enthusiasts also, not faceless company owners but real people, but most importantly they totally kick butt on what they offer for the price. Other then being a satisfied customer I have no horse in the race, but I've seen people pay twice as much for half of much of e gear and then be dis satisfied with the end product, and feel the need to say something! That scooter is great, totally bad ass, but over priced.

The segway mini ( now ninebot ) is built like a brick shithouse . It habdles dirt , gravel and wet grass fine
You can get a set of off road tires for it too
Hard to beat for buzzing around town
Once you learn it you kinda oppose getting off and walking

I have a buddy with a super steep , long road up to his house . I didnt figure it could substain the climb
No Problem at all

Re: EScoooters in the Back of a 180

I agree Luna Cycle is the way to go. I had one of their ebikes and was really impressed. They make a great product.

I did some thinking and getting into 2 scooters at 2500$ is a pretty significant expense, especially as most of the places I fly to I will not use it much. Can rent a bike too. Lots of Chinese stuff out there, hard to parse the quality but also tons ends up with 3/5 star reviews or worse when you dig past the fake ones.

Re: EScoooters in the Back of a 180

One huge advantage of a e bike, especially a full sized bike like the Montague, whether store bought as such or a conversion ( like my 3), is that they look so bike like. You have pedals, you get as much exercise as you want, and pedaling helps the range a lot plus makes you feel like you're not some lump just sitting there letting the e power do all the work. Nobody looks twice at you, you're invisible, like a jogger, and they are a great way to tour some small town or area while waiting out bad WX, but not wanting to feel like too much of a tourist or a geek. A one wheel, or other admittingly cool as hell e device like a mini Segway, does not offer that benefit. A minor point, but when combined with the actual practical advantages of a full sized bike (faster, can carry stuff, more range, etc.) that's why I have finagled a way to carry one in my small plane, the Rans S-7S. You guys with the 180's, Maules, and 182's are cracking me up, you have so much room it should be a crime NOT to carry a bike.

I also choke at the price of electrics. Just sold a low km KLR 650 mint for way less than I can build an off-road EBike for. But it’s new technology and it’s changing fast. It’s only going to get more fun.

Yeah, don't ask what I have wrapped up in my Montague! But, if there is ever a contest of who has the most bad ass, capable, practical, AND very quick deploying (less then 3 minutes from taxiing up to assembled and riding off) e bike that fits in a S-7S, I will win!
