Ethanol legislation now in Oregon legislature

A bill to repeal the ethanol mandate in Oregon has been submitted to the Oregon legislature, HB-2559.

Unfortunately the bill does not provide a prohibition on the blending of ethanol into premium unleaded. In fact if the bill passes in its present form it will be worse for aviation than the present law, because this bill repeals the exemptions of SB-1079.

I have written Representative Gilman and asked him to add one sentence to the bill that will provide the protection. I urge other pilots in Oregon to write Representative Gilman and urge him to add the protection, because without it Oregon will become just like all of the other states, 46 of them, with no protection for aircraft use as ethanol sweeps the country because of the federal RFS mandate, EISA 2007.

I am also working with Senator Viki Walker, who incidentally is the only Senate sponsor of HB-2559 and a Democrat to boot, on a separate bill to prohibit the blending of ethanol in premium unleaded, but I think it would be better if it was all in one bill.

The status of this bill and other ethanol legislation in Oregon can be monitored at: http://e0pc.com/forum/index.php?topic=62.0
