It is a long and bothersome story, but I will give the high points of it.
3 partners, me, the FBO owner/IA at my airport, and a 20 year old who works for him. Champ should have and could have been bolted together and flown ugly. We decided it need some fresh paint, should have just been a quick respray as a little trainer like this really only needs to look good from 10 feet away. This is a 75 HP, no electrical system Champ. Simple is the goal here, not pretty.
It all somehow turned into a over done show paint job, and then when I thought we were done with that nonsense, I came in to the hangar to fin the IA's paid crew all building and installing an elaborate interior in the little underpowered airplane. The labor cost to be billed back to the airplane when it sells.
Then they got busy again, and their has been no room to paint the wings. On top of that, the 20 something split and went to Alaska (can't blame him) but took all the paperwork.
I am into this 3600 for my original 3rd, about 1500 in materials, and my labor. It wouldn't hurt that bad if I walk.
Thinking I will find myself a flying fixer upper. I may be working for at Renton airport this summer. There are lots of planes there both to rent and purchase, and I should be making enough money to buy one.

Sorry to hear that the Champ project took on an unwanted life of it's own. That's one advantage to being a solo owner, you get to call all the shots -- trouble is, ya gotta pay 100% of all the bills too. Maybe one of the other guys will cash you out, at least partially, so you don't walk with totally empty pockets.
The bright side is that it sounds like a little more airplane would fit your normal mission better, so maybe you don't need a champ cramping your style anyway. Lots of good airplanes out there for good prices these days.

Thats pretty much whats happenening. No one disputes I own 1/3 or what I have into it. With the young partner gone, and the IA burried in too man other projects it is pretty much up to me to get it done now, which I will eventually.
Since I will be working where there is more airplanes, I will have more access to deals. I love those "have to sell it today" type deal, or the "lost my hangar and getting s divorce type of thing"

I will not be airplanless for much longer.
