Excellent Customer Service from The Landing Gear Works

While pushing our 185 around the other day we discovered we couldn’t get the tailwheel to kick out (nose left, tail right). After some taxi test we called Tom at TLGW and he walked us through some troubleshooting and we determined we needed to send the unit back for further diagnostic tests and repairs. I told Tom that we were intending on leaving in several days for a family trip to Johnson Creek. Since it was a Friday, Tom had me overnight the package directly to his personal residence so he could work on it at home.

After tearing down the unit, Tom determined that the Cessna/Scott/FAA PMA kickout spring, PN3432 was worn to a point that it would not release the fork to the full swivel. Further metallurgy tests concluded that the spring was indeed faulty and was putting too much pressure on the fork, which had cracked in the kickout spring support slot and was unrepairable.

TLGW/Tom stood behind their product and offered to repair/replace the defective parts in the hub and provide a new fork. He also said they will overnight the entire assembly back to us, so our trip will only be delayed by one day.

I can’t say enough about TLGW’s customer service! To have a company and an individual go out of their way and work on a Saturday is going above and beyond. I was so impressed I felt that I had to share.
