Yes it's real. 15s are my baby, I miss them. I know of a few other incidents that led to flying without a wing. One of them was my old unit, training sortie ferrying live missiles to the FOLs, the recycler didn't work and a live 9 was shot off and did it's job. Jet lost the left wing, left engine failed, and most of the left stab was gone. It landed safely and was repaired and flying again shortly thereafter. There's another guy on this site that can back up the stories too :D

Tadpole, I can neither confirm or deny what you are implying.

Some of those little birdies may talk the truth. It's way too long of story for here, but would be a great "Guest Speaker" presentation at a BCP fly-in in Idaho. I retire this summer and hopefully my -170 and I will be back in Washington/Idaho/Oregon by July.

Rob, take him up on this....don't let it pass by.

I won't be able to make it this BCP JC fly-in (2012) unless I can find a fast way up Friday night and back Sunday night. Starting a new job and won't have any vacation. Though I'd love to be there with Jughead for his presentation even though I know the story.

If you can get a cheap airfare between Boise and Denver, I'm sure one of us can shuffle you back and forth between JC and Boise  As long as the Wx cooperates [-o<

Depending on how work is going by then, I'll try to at least get that Friday off (even without pay) if things can work out, so that's an idea. Commercial to Boise Friday morning and back out Sunday evening.
