I purchased an aircraft several months ago, and while I realize the government was shut down for awhile, I haven't received the new registration in my name yet. I sent it in around the middle of July. Anyone else experiencing this?

The FAA Registry is now offering limited online aircraft registration services. Individual aircraft owners can complete self-guided aircraft registration applications, upload legal and supplemental documents, receive auto-generated notification, request aircraft registration N- Numbers, use modernized online payment options, receive instant notification of payment, and digitally sign Aircraft Registration Applications. Services will be continuously improved.

The Federal Aviation Administration accepts documents containing digital signatures by email. The documents may be submitted electronically as an attachment to an email at [email protected]. Documents signed in ink must be submitted by U.S. Post Office or commercial delivery services. I called this morning to clear up an issue. On hold for 35 minutes but I did get to talk to a real person and got my issue resolved.

I registered a plane starting the paperwork in late August. Had registration in hand late September this year.

Want a real shit show? Try registering your first ag drone. The form has three places for SN, your drone will have 2 SN's. But put any more than 1 and you'll get kicked back so that you can cross one out. Which one? You pick, they're not going to tell you. But there is a wrong one Oh, and a kickback means you're at bottom of the pile again when your package makes its way back.

The irony here is that drones are the reason your registration is late. When drones first started popping up, the FAA thought what the heck, registration can handle a few of these 'glorified model airplanes' to add to the registry burden, how many can there possibly be? A few hundred, a few thousand?.... wrong....
That number is currently over a million and counting.
Then said FAA in its infinite wisdom figured out there was a problem in Huston... err Oklahoma City and decided to train up new drone specialists for the registry... and who gets to train them? The people that are supposed to be registering your airplane


When I hear people lament about the good Ole days of barnstorming, or how GA is doomed, it occurs to me they don't realize both still exist, the form factor just keeps evolving. What?, say you.. I recently heard a well respected ag operator exclaim how he was running all his drones ahead of program... his answer? "There are no drone police"

At least the FAA is "essential." Try getting a required FCC Restricted Radio Operators license right now (one of the Rs in ARROW).

Fortunately only required outside the US.

And, I'm pretty sure the registration function of the FAA was also "non essential".

Back when I was a Fed, I was informed by my boss that I was "non essential". I responded that he'd been telling me that for years, what's new? His response: "We have Presidential confirmation now.
