Additionally, they were the only one without restrictions against off-airport landings .... and other companies had some goofy language restricting "looking at animals".....doesn't work for me here in Montana where I check cows, horses, and occasional elk from the air. I like Avemco.... and have made use of the 10% savings on most years. Good motivation to go back to the classroom, or go to a search and rescue clinic. Lastly, their rates have continually gone down as my tail-wheel time increased. Ralph

Ralph-

Contrary to popular belief, the off airport exclusion is about as hard to find as hens teeth...Avemco is NOT the only company to allow off airport landings. In fact there is only one company that I have seen an off airport exclusion and that was with Phoenix. Phoenix will on rare occasions add the exclusion to their policy if they deem it necessary for underwriting reasons.

With regards to the exclusion for animal herding...that would be through Global...it does not exclude checking your cattle...only herding them with the aircraft. They also exclude ski operations and float operations in their standard pleasure & business policy.

Avemco beat AIG in my case.

$1460 vs $1511

Are there any other players?

Global, Phoenix, US Specialty, Specialty Aviation, Aerospace, London.

For $50 difference I would have gone with AIG...there is a big difference in the liability coverage between Avemco and the other underwriting companies.

By the way...if you are an EAA member Global will waive the deductibles and increase the medical coverage to $10,000 for no additional charge.

Hey I want to bring up this topic again I just to the corse on Mountain Flying. It was very informative but the reason I'm bringing it up is there were some great videos on the dangers of Density Altitude. I'd like to post them but I'll just give the link for the registered uses. (It's free to sign up).

To my knowledge, we are limited to Avemco or Falcon. Avemco was cheapest for me. Another factor to consider is how they handle a claim. I know they did right by me when I ground looped the buzzard last May

While aviation has made the world a smaller place, if you fall, it's still hard to miss!

Of course, since the gub'ment just gave a hunk of my money to AIG 'because they're too big to let fail,' I say the next order of business ought to be to break 'em up into smaller pieces that can be allowed to fail.

I bought Avemco back in my student days and have stayed with 'em. When I was shopping for a Pacer, I got a quote that was *breathtaking*. Wound up with a Tri-Pacer that's obviously much cheaper to insure. Still, need to score more hours in it if I'm ever going to see my premium come down. (And take some of those classes.)
