This very large fabric tensioned type structure was built about 3 years ago, and is used for grain storage during harvest. It is less then 1 mile from KPIH (Pocatello) where I was doing some crane work. Not only did the fabric fail, closer inspection revealed the entire half of the building damn near took flight! Check out the guy on top, I hope he has a body harness on
It is secured to large concrete blocks, kind of like highway barriers but bigger. You would never think they would move if you saw how big and how many.....but it appears the reason the fabric failed is half of the structure shifted a foot or so. The tower guys mentioned it was a peak gust of 62 knots that day that they think did the damage. The open ended building, engineered I'm sure, still failed. Another reminder, as if we needed one, what the wind can do!
