Mark (along with his partner Nathan) is my A&P/IA. Good guys. Don't know the pilots.

The title of that thread had me thinking that it was going to be about you. Glad it wasn't.

Re: Fairbanks C170 flying adventure, mishap mostly avoided

Rick lives on Lakloey residential airpark, just east of Fort Wainwright. His airplane is an O-360 powered 170, that he's had for decades. As the article notes, he's flown back and forth to the Korth's for many years and he's very experienced in that airplane.

Joe Mattie is a fur buyer and trapper who traps on the Yukon Flats, and buys and sells furs up and down the Yukon. He used to fly part 135. He's a very experienced flyer, and does a lot of ski flying. He's certainly a guy I'd want available to rescue me if I were in that situation.

Both good fellows, and it is indeed nice to hear that it all worked out without severe damage to airplanes or either of the participants. I can testify that Rick is correct in that, had his engine given out just a little farther north, the options wouldn't have been pretty. Been there, done that, in about the same area.

And, you are absolutely correct that Mark is a GREAT young mechanic, with a love for 170's. Course, he owns one. Anyone who needs maintenance work in FAI would be well served to look up Mark and Nathan.

A good news story, and a good job done by all.
