Re: Fairbanks to Vermont

From Ottawa it was a quick 1.5 or so to Burlington VT to clear customs. Had a long stabilized 5 mile final to a long runway in perfect conditions and bounced it like a newb #-o

From Burlington it was .6 to the grass strip where it’ll be based.

Good looking plane and great looking trip. I’m jealous how much of Canada you saw.

Re: Fairbanks to Vermont

That was a great read, thanks for sharing!

I’m not sure why, but when I was reading the title I’d assumed you’d cross back to the states sooner - I probably would have. Reading your notes and looking at the pictures, I think you did it right! Looks like it was a great trip!

I think there’s something about a customs appointment that makes planes bounce, mine did the same in Minot :-D

Awesome looking 170 and was very similar to a trip my daughter and I did bringing my Maule from Anchorage back to CT two years ago. It was almost exactly the same time of year within a week or two. We had very similar weather and stopped at many of the same places initially but then diverged further south to warmer weather. What an amazing adventure I'm sure you'll never forget.

If you draw a straight line on a map between Fairbanks and Burlington, it goes just south of the Hudson Bay. When I looked at the route, I was too scared to fly over the hundreds of miles of shield/muskeg/polar bear infested swamps of Manitoba north and east of Lake Winnipeg, so went south below it. It turns out that the portion of Ontario from Lake Superior to roughly North Bay is more wild and inhospitable than I predicted...

Quite a cross country, literally! Nice report, and glad to know a classic old airplane has a nice new home.
And, yes, there’s a LOT of wild country out there!

Great TR. Really enjoyed it.
Glad you met Harv. He is a great guy. I think I was the last student that he did a flight test for. I'm now his ambassador from the west. I need to fly out there and visit him again soon.

Thanks for sharing. I’m super jealous and want to make the trip from Alaska to Montana someday- just hard to find the time.

I know the feeling, and had years of difficulties finding time for flying. Had some conversations recently with some older guys who had stories about stuff they had always wanted to do, but never quite got around to doing.

If you don’t do it, then you’ll never have done it. I decided to make the time, and happy I did.

My sentiments exactly, Dirt911. There came the moment when I decided: I didn't want to regret later on not having done ... "today".
That was also the moment when I started to take my dream seriously and work on its realization. Lots of priorities needed to be changed, but in the end I succeeded: see my trip report "...camping trip in the eastern US".

Couldn't be happier!

Nice place! I flew up from Parlin on my recent trip and did a couple of touch and go's there - and a soaring buddy of mine lives just across the road!
