federal 3000 ski oil
Two of the best inventions ever, skis and airplanes, together.
Hello Folks,
just wondering if anyone on here is running the federal 3000 wheel skis and if so what oil are you running in them. whatever is in mine looks and smells a lot like ATF which makes a lot of sense as I run that in a lot of my hydraulic equipment, but I doubt anything aviation uses ATF!!

IIRC, while both 5606 and ATF are mineral based, ATF could have some additional lubricants required by a hydrostatic transmission. 5606 is also red/pink.
A can of it is cheap and can be ordered from Spruce or the like.

5606 flows much more readily in cold temperatures. It does make a significant difference in winter hydraulic applications.

I use 5606 in skis and brakes. Buy a quart and use a old school squirt can with flex tip for toping off.
