Feel the bass!! Farm flying in Oregon

DCO-65 and I burned some gas together the other day. The GoPro really captures the low frequency audio of the engine well, such that it ends up being pretty soothing and not distorted. Hope you enjoy the back of my head in this 5-minute edit that I made, because otherwise it is extremely boring.

Hey, that was fun to watch. It sure is green on the coast; a sight for sore eyes as it looks like another drought year for us! Is that a stall horn at 6:15? When did they start putting them in Cubs?

Nice Zane. I go out and fly, then I come home and watch other people fly on the internet. Guess I'm sick :| Think there's a pill for that?

Nah, it's a local rental. Very lucky to have it in my time of no-plane-having.

Man that's awesome that you can rent that. Just curious, what kind of per hour rate do u have to pay for it? (If u can't say that's cool)

$114/wet at Stark's Twin Oaks. Good little family-run country airport.

You definitely need to remount that camea farther to the right and/or higher. This video reminded me of why I don'tlike to ride in the back of a tandem airplane.
You might wanna really keep yur eyes open buzzing them gravel bars-- I heard abut a guy who snagged a fishing line (and an expensive fly rod) doing that on the Snoqualmie River when he didn't see a fly fisherman in time to zoom up.
Can't tell by the sound, but doesn't the sport cub have an O-200? It looks like you shut the engine down with the key, not by pulling the mixture.

I doubt I'll post many more of these GoPro videos, I think they're only not-boring to the pilot who shot them. I can only imagine if the airspeed indicator and the turn coordinator were visible to the masses, it would open up fun new channels of criticism. 8)

Pulled the mixture and the engine continued dieseling for 15 seconds. It needs adjustment, been doing that for a while. Rather than let it beat itself about on 1 or 2 cylinders, I just kill the mags.

There was another Super Cub parked on the bar, and he was waded out fishing as I flew by, he waved. You can see me wave back in the last few seconds of the clip. Actually being in the cockpit isn't like watching a claustrophobic video from a camera mounted in the back seat. Visibility from the front seat of that airplane is amazing.

I didn't think the video was boring, I just got a criick in my neck while watching it from trying to peek over the pilot's sholder at the view ahead. I sure didn't mean my comments as criticism, more as (commment #1) a suggestion, (#2) a heads-up, and (#3) curiosity. I didn't know if maybe that Cub had an alternative engine of some sort that's supposed to be shut down by the key switch.
Great rate on that Cub BTW. I wish a rental like that was available at my airport, I'd sure get me some time in it.

Re: Feel the bass!! Farm flying in Oregon

I enjoyed that, keep posting videos.

I am counting down the days of when my airplane drought ends and I start flying the sport cub that Cub Crafters employees get to rent as a job perk. Yep, moving to Yakima and going to work for Cub Crafters this month.

Why don't you climb in that hotrod cessna and come visit us this summer? Or join us in the San Juans?

8 years of BCP and I only met you 2 months ago?

Re: Feel the bass!! Farm flying in Oregon

If you spent much time around me in person, you'd probably ban me from the site! Serously though, I'll have to do that. The San Juans for sure, and maybe a friday morning at Lenhardts or a sunday morning breakfast at the Flying M. Lotsa good flying destinations down around Portland, I just never seem to get around to going down there. It's back-forty flying more than back-country, but Daybreak's one of my favorites-- what a cool place.
