Fellow pilot in dire need of some help near Cincinnati

A friend just called me desperately looking to transport his plane ASAP just South of the Cincinnati area. He took off from the field where Sporty's is located and never made his destination. The wings are already off the plane. A car hauler would be more than sufficient. If you are in that area and can help please contact him directly at 6 two 3 2 six 2 33 two 8.

Unfortunately I can't help (no hauler), but am nearby. Was this the person who ended up on a golf course in Clermont County on Saturday? No fun.

Yes that was him. Engine quit at 2000ft. He put it down on the 17th fairway but ran out of room, hit a bunker and cartwheeled right onto the center of the green. If it wasn't for the fact that it was completely destroyed it looked like it belonged there. Him and his wife walked away but the airplane was a total loss. Shame as that plane was the only registered Avid V and was a one of kind prototype.

As a trouble free past Soob owner, 1300 hrs TT, I feel the need to stick up for it: I'll hazard a guess it was a fuel system, reduction system, or maybe electrical based problem. Like most or at least a lot of auto conversions, any problems are often in the details, not the core power plant. Mine (Stratus conversion) ran perfect from day one. Too heavy was the only downer (pun intended) to it.

What I want to know is what is an Avid V?

BTW, I see that Avid designer Dean Wilson was recently inducted into the Idaho aviation Hall of Fame. No word yet as to whether or not any such honor is being considered for Dan Denny :P That's an inside joke.... Kind of like if Randy S. of RANS was similarly honored, would the Savage Cub guy be next?

The Avid V was John Larsens mods done to the MK IV and was the prototype for what became the airdale flyer. She was a one of a kind and it sucks that she is wadded up.

The subie is a great engine, but as you said its heavy. A buddy has one in his Fat Avid and it gets in and out just as good as my 582 powered avid but only burns 3.5 GPH when I am burning 6 GPH.
