Fine Wire Plug Cleaning?

Recently made the switch from massives to Tempest fine wires. What maintenance are you guys doing on these - just rotating every 50 hours? With the old massives used to media blast and re-gap then rotate, but these fine wires are a lot more delicate.

I just take a piece of salty wire and clean out any lead balls (few if any) and put them on the pressure tester every 100-150 hours never rotate top to bottom.

Shhhhhh. Damn. You are not supposed to let anyone know about salty wire, I thought we had a deal. ;-)

I miss the days of Benzene. I remember pulling fouled plugs out of my 327 Chevy powered Jeep, dropping in a jar of Benzene, and watching all the gunk and carbon just melt away. And it's actually handy to be able to scratch my back with that third arm.

Safety wire

I actually glass bead blast mine every year. One set is 18 years old and still going strong.

Re: Fine Wire Plug Cleaning?

What brand of plugs did u ohm them. I have some champion fine wire not to many hours look good but most have over 5000 ohms. Just changed to tempest , they are all 2500 ohms

Re: Fine Wire Plug Cleaning?

Always check resistance whenever plugs are out, below 5000 ohms are what you want. I have never had a Tempest fail but have seen many Champion’s fail, fine wire or massive electrode. Be careful cleaning finewire plugs. Consult the Tempest website for guidance.
