Firewall battery regrets?

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

That's not the Composite Voyager they are flying via 337. Hartzell has a number of composite props flying but they have not certified the Composite Voyager as of yet. Ive been wrong before but I'm pretty sure they are not flying the Composite Voyager prop yet.

They are the Hartzell Trailblazer props.. They put one on the 180 they raffled off at the Airmen's show (or non-show) in May, and a good buddy of mine has one on his.

Spruce sells one specifically for the Odyssey SBS-J16.
Cheaper too-- $39 vs $59.
But it might be easier / cheaper in the long run to get an STC'd box from Dodge or Burls.

The Voyager and the Trailblazer are complete different airfoils and props. The composite Voyager will be tested at the end of the year.

So is the Trailblazer obsolete now that the Voyager is coming out?

The Hartzell Trailblazer was initially designed for the Lycoming O/IO 360 series engines. Lots of them on Huskys, etc.

I imagine that Hartzell has designed a composite prop specifically for the larger Cessna application.

My understanding is that the Voyager is only for the 180/185. Specifically designed for those 2 aircraft. From what I hear it performs very very well. Hoping they would maybe bring one out for the 206...

Re: Firewall battery regrets?

I heard some talk of a Trailblazer type prop being tested on the 182 this year? I'm interested to learn about how they compare to the MT.

The 180H I fly has it. It’s on floats and the only other ones I’ve seen with the under seat battery are also on floats. Not sure if coincidence

There's also a couple models of the early 210 set up that way. I haven't seen a 180 that way yet though, but it's a good spot for it.

Re: Firewall battery regrets?

Odyssey 680 had a tough time on a cold start the other night, needed a jump to get going. So, load tested all three 680's in the hangar, two were in the 300cca range, Citabria one only showed 190. Yeah, yeah the tag says 170cca. Checked the date, August 2006! I got my money's worth out of that one, think I'll get another.

That’s been my experience with as well. They just work. Last one I took out of the plane at seven years, put it in a riding mower. Last I heard it was still doing fine in the mower…..16 years old battery.

They actually call it a "hold down bracket"
