First flying video and creation

I have tried out the new GoPro and although it didn't capture much of the nice flying video (due to it flopping back and recording the underside of the wing, I at least got the first take off and canyon flight. I then stopped to fix it and recorded a low pass approach and a final stop.

More to come now that I am figuring out the video editing software.

Thanks for watching!

Re: First flying video and creation

Also if somebody can give me some possible tips.

I have a GoPro and purchased the "wingit mount" but as I started picking up speed it flopped back. I tightened the crap out of the screws in an attempt to hold it into place but it flopped back until it rested on the strut with one of the ties. If I use only one mount it is crooked due to the strut being at an angle and thus I am stuck with having to use the multi angle mounts. Any advise on synching them down to avoid it from moving back? (besides glue)? hehe

Thanks!

I haven't had that problem, so maybe something else is going on with your setup. But you might try something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Wrench- ... B00ACF4Z8G

Pliers could work as a test, but I prefer the specially built tool so the grips on the knobs don't get torn up.

Excellent thanks for the info! I guess I can try tightening it with some wrenches or pliers just didn't want to get it too tight and strip it.

I'll give it another try.

Re: First flying video and creation

I enjoy watching videos from inside the cockpit more than the ones from externally mounted cameras. Honestly, the shot from the strut with the engine cowling peeking in gets pretty boring after 30 seconds, unless you're going for a scenery-only view.

Mountainmatt used to have some great videos shot from his Stinson that used two cameras, and on one you could see him working the controls and trimming and other pilot shit inside the cockpit. It was great! Way more interesting to a pilot.

That's just my opinion. Variety is the best.

Nope, that is great info! I also like the idea from the inside view as you can then hear a little bit of what is going on, etc.

When I get some extra cash I'll buy another camera to do both views, but until then maybe I'll buy that grip holder mount to view from behind the pilots out the front window ;o)

Thanks!

I have a mount i designed that wont flip back like the wingit mount. What type of plane of you have? I might have one that will work for you?

Re: First flying video and creation

I think the reason you see so many external camera shots is because of the obnoxious distorted prop you get from internal shots. If you don't or can't put a filter on your camera, then your stuck with external views. My next camera will be one that can be filtered so that I can capture both inside and out. Matt does have some great vids done that way...using one othe other...or both.

I have a 172 and a 182q model that I fly. Primarily the 182. I like the wing it mount just sucks to have the angle. What kind of mount did you design? Any pics?

My mount is much different and more versatile then the Wingit mount. The wingit mount tries to match the cessna struts front proflile, but in doing so it will never be a perfect fit between models and even more so between other aircraft. The mount I have is more Strut Agnostic so much so it can be used on tubes as well. Think anything with a tubular structure between 1.13 and 2.75".. I have a video of it being used on a Triumph Speed Triple and my Hanglider. Anyhow, my mount has 2 contact points on the front where it touches the strut so it does not rely on matching any exact strut leading edge profile. I have patented my design and attachment method. My mount is machined for Custom extrusions I had made to my specs. I also have a rear clamp as well and 2 straps in opposition instead of one on the wingit. With two straps being isolated with a rear clamp if the mount tries to rotate one strap becomes tighter and it wont allow it to move. My rear clamp contacts the strut at tangent points on all the cessna line of strutted airplanes from the 140a and up. My current design was designed with cessnas in mind since I rent a 172 but its been used on stinsons as well as a glassair sportsman. I have a new design in prototyping and its being tested on an Interstate Cadet as well as a Bearhawk but should be versitile enough to fit on just about any strut with a chord length longer than 2.5" long. I have a separate design for a CarbonCub as well. Also my mount does away with all the plastic hardware on the gopro wheras the wingit mount uses existing plastic gopro clamps. The only plastic part used is the gopro camera housing and the tripod adapter. The mount has a professional tripod ball mount that is used as the mounting surface for the camera and is much easier to set up the shot with the multiple degrees of freedom a ball mount has.

Here are images of the mount on a few aircraft: http://imgur.com/a/GZHA1#0

Here is a video from an Alaskan pilot on a C185: http://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/g ... mple-14210

If you have watched any of the episodes of Adventures on the fly then you have seen my mount in action as Allen uses it for his show.

I sell the mounts for $125 plus $5 shipping which is comparable to the wingit, but in my opinion (biased... ) my mount has much more thought and engineering involved in the design...

Best regards,

Marc Webster
