First shot of my bird in the air

Sometimes the most fun way to get into the backcountry, Part 103 Ultralights and Light Sport Aircraft have their own considerations.

First shot of my bird in the air

A buddy snapped this pic on Sunday. I didn't even know he took it until he emailed it to me. It's a nice shot of my Avid Flyer though. Our annual Airport Day was going on down below hence why I was looking down and not outside like I should have been.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

Re: First shot of my bird in the air

Congratulations... if I'm reading your post title correctly and you have just gotten your Avid into the air! Good looking airplane, enjoy it for many years to come.

BTW Make sure you take the time to thank Dean Wilson for designing such a neat little light sport sport bush plane - back during the says where everyone else was doing "lawn chair" ultralights. I never got to thank CG Taylor for the Cub and T-craft, but I believe Wilson is still alive and active. It might mean a lot to him to hear from all the thousands of people who fly his light sport designs... the Avid Flyer AND the Avid Copy!

Re: First shot of my bird in the air

I am fortunate enough to have Dean as a family friend and a member of the EAA chapter back home where I grew up. He actually did the firewall forward on this bird for me because it had a heavy Soob on it when I got it. I talk to him quite frequently on things relating to the Avid. He is a very unique individual. Thanks for the compliments. I looked at the TW's of a Stinson and a Supercub at a Fly-in this weekend and both had just a little bit of slack in their chains. I bought some different springs to experiment with next time I get some time to work on my bird. Mine are too tight right now.
