Not having a license...maybe - if that part is even true. I know we read it on the internet but, even the Internet has been known to get facts wrong every once in a while. But plenty of people have safely operated airplanes without US government approval. That doesn't mean the guy had no clue what he was doing nor that we should assume he was a reckless idiot.
This may have simply been an engine failure at the wrong time that ended in a terrible tragedy.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until the NTSB says otherwise.
