Float rated

So my stinson is sitting in pieces with the wings off while my IA installs the float kit. In the meantime i decided to finish up my seaplane rating and I have to say it was AWESOME. It was easy and fun, we are in the Adirondacks and have an amazing amount of water to use up here. I finished up with about 7.5 hours (we went for proficiency and not a rating but a rating can be achieved an as little as 4-6 hours. It cost under $1000 which I think was a great deal including the examiner in a 135hp c-140. After my checkride my instructor cut me loose in his seaplane !! Which is awesome, I got to take the girlfriend down to some really remote lakes in the adirondacks and it definitely the best way to get in the backcountry out east here. So i definitely recommend to those thinking about it do it. It's the most fun I've had in a plane yet !

Seaplanes Rule :!:When I win the lottery I am going to get another one.Seaplanes are the reason I got a Pilot license in the first place. If the Jackpot I win is big enough I will fly my new amphib to the Helicopter factory and get one of those also.......... :D Have an awesome time with your new toy!

Congrats on the rating. Are you going to leave it on floats all the time and do you have them yet? Defiantly a lot of fun. Up here where I am at, floats are the rule. Nice to look out the window and see your plane sitting on an endless runway.

Yeah I have my floats and we will keep it on floats as long as there is water to fly on once it freezes we go to skis... What i'm scared of is that I want another plane for wheels.... 8)

Mike, what floats for your Stinson? Growing up we spent summers near Saranac Lake and I loved all the float plane activity up there, love to go back up there someday on floats to get deeper into that country.

Cheers, Vick
