Florida -> Idaho in a Husky

I’m planning on flying to Idaho for the Round Engine Roundup at the end of the month, and would like recommendations on places to overfly, as well as good half-way spots to camp. As long as the weather looks good for the trip, my plan is to leave early morning on the 27, and make it to Idaho Falls in the afternoon or evening of the 28th. The event doesn’t officially start until the afternoon of the 29th though, so I don’t necessarily have to be in a rush. I have some friends that will have their RV in Creede, CO at the same time, so I may take an extra day and pop in to see them after the Round Engine Roundup.

The plans are to bring a tent and camp one night on the way out there, and one night on the way back. I’ll be in a hotel while in Idaho.

I’ve never flown out west, so I’m open to any suggestions on where to go, where not to go, what to do, and what not to do. I’ve attached a very preliminary flight plan, just based off fuel prices and somewhat equal legs.

Re: Florida -> Idaho in a Husky

Sounds like a great trip! I took a husky on floats once from St Augustine to Calgary. One of the best trips of my life. I looked for airports with restaurants on the field along the way. Cheyenne can have great weather and it can suck in Laramie. I’ve been through the pass at medicine bow and it was nice. All I can think of at the moment.

Oh and do NOT get in a hurry. That almost bit me near Sioux City...

Hey, I love Huskys, but you’ve got a Staggerwing, and you’re taking a Husky to the Round Engine Round Up??? Whoa, what’s wrong with this picture? :D

Great bunch of folks there, and they’re just as friendly to folks with flat engines. Bob Hoff, the organizer, and his wife Jane just got back to Idaho Falls from a round trip to Florida in their Staggerwing. That’s one classy “corporate transport”.

I’m only flying the Husky because my parents are taking the Staggerwing on a 3-4 week trip out west. I can only be away from work for about a week.

Bob and Jane actually stayed with us while they were in Florida. We hosted the Radial Reunion and they joined us for Sun ‘N Fun afterwards. They’re great people, and Bob actually helped talk me into buying the Husky.

Thanks Dave. Although I “should” be back to work within a week of leaving, very little can’t be handled without me if I get delayed.
