Have a great trip. At least with your airplane your options for stopping along the way are greatly increased.

Talking about crazy stuff around Sedona. Wonder if that crazy broad and her ufo, area 51 types are still trying to shut down the airport there.

Still looking for camping ideas in Nevada... Any dry lakes or remote airstrips or some trees to hang my hammock?

I don't know Nevada well, but I fly over on my way between CA and Idaho for elk. If you just want a place to stop for the night, launch and fly until you have 1-2 hours of sun left. Look down and there will be a desert place to land and camp, no fuel, no water, no food. Alternatively, go to Reno, then follow highway 395 south. Bridgeport CA; camp by the plane, eat at the Rhino Bar. Lee Vining; camp by the plane, eat at the Mobil station (this is right down the hill from Tolumne Meadows, climber chicks in summer). Bishop; camp by the plane or Buttermilks, eat at Whiskey Creek $$ or Mexican food place $. (if you're a boulderer, go to Eastside Sports and find somebody to take you to the Buttermilks) and Lone Pine; camp by the plane, eat at the Seasons or Alabama Hills Cafe, maybe find somebody to take you to Alabama Hills.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I will probably keep my route more to the east taking the "rural" way, but will keep those in mind for sure. I've done some climbing in the Alabama Hills, fun stuff! 8)

I always dreamt about flying down the Owens Valley. The Sierras from the backside must be incredible. Lone Pine would be a cool place to hang out, with the craggy view of MT Whitney in the back ground. There was a lot of movies shot in the Alabama hills. Landing up there on one of them dirt roads would probably be a no no.

Re: Flying from Corvallis, OR to Sedona, AZ - Seeking advice

The last trip I did through Oregon/Nevada/Utah in a BC airplane, I made it a goal to camp off airport both ways. It is very doable and was really a blast. As I flew, I would start looking for dry lake beds or remote roads on ridge tops on foreflight for where I thought I would end the days flying. There is a LOT of nothing out there, just make sure you are not in a MOA! Take anchors for tie downs as the wind can blow hard out there.

Have fun and keep us posted.

Ya might think about Green River after Cedar City for Mogas, then fly head toHidden Splendor and down Muddy Creek to the Dirty Devil, on down to Lake Powell. Grey Mtn has Mogas(watch for big holes in the runway or land on the highway), then on to Sez. Be a pretty scenic section for your flight???/

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.
