A PA newbie sharing what PA has to offer flyboys in the month of June.
June 5-6-7 World War II Weekend at Reading Airport boasts the largest privately owned
WWII equipment anywhere. Part of the Reading airport is turned into a large encampment of armies of many countries complete with equipment, clothing and even music. The hangars are set up to display 1940’s households, “live” radio broadcasts with stand-ins of Abbott and Costello, Fibber Magee and Molly, etc. Friday evening the large hangar is cleared for big band music featuring a local vocalist and the top hits of the 40’s. There is also dancing including the jitterbug. Women are dressed in clothing, hairdos and makeup of the 40’s.
Many aircraft of WWII show up including a Lancaster bomber from Canada.
A mock-up French village is constructed where street battles are enacted several times a day.
Veterans/Heroes of WWII are on hand to share their stories – Band of Brothers, Tuskegee Airmen, etc. One year I was fortunate enough to hear Tibbets of Enola Gay.
For those who are into this kind of stuff, it is a great weekend and each year it gets bigger and better.

June 17-20 Sentimental Journey located at Lock Haven, the birthplace of the Piper Cub. Cubs from all over the country show up from as far as California. There are areas for motor homes and campsites. Live music and good reasonably priced food are hallmarks of this event.
Flying activities include spot landing, bomb dropping and rides in a restored DC3. Although this is billed as a Piper event, all types of aircraft are welcome and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

June 19-21 is Fathers’ Day at Wellsville, PA. It’s a private grass strip which has camping facilities, volleyball courts, swimming pool and a dining area where prime rib steak dinners are to be featured this year. This event mostly draws light sport, ultralights, hang gliders, gyrocopters and some certified aircraft.

I have been reading this site for some time and enjoy it very much. I wanted to share some of what the east coast has to offer grass strip pilots.
