Hi,

I wondered if anybody on this site is from the Phoenix, AZ area?
I'm from Germany and I'll be in the vicinity of Phoenix,AZ till August and would like to be able to do some flying during this time.
Is there any place you could recommend for renting an airplane?
Or if there's somebody in the vicinity that has an open seat for showing me around here, I would be happy to buy gas...

Hi -
I live in the area but do not have a plane. Chandler Air Service is great place if you want to fly a Super Cub or even and open cockpit Great Lakes. http://www.aerobatics.com/

I have not check out Classic Air Aviation at Falcon Field in Mesa, but they have good rates it looks like http://www.classicairaviation.com/

What are your qualifications? Chandler Air Service rents Husky's, Cub's, Great Lakes, Pitt's and of course the more 'generic' stuff. Some dual required for a check out of course


Several local guys on the board, both active and lurkers, you should be able to generate some tour time pretty easy.

Get going ASAP, decent flying WX (due to heat) is coming to an end here before too long

I don't think they have husky's anymore. I got my TW signoff out there in 2011 in the cubs. Great place. I need to get out there and get some time in the lakes.

AZ is an excellent place for a soaring pilot and we welcome the heat. Yes, it does make the C170 anemic, but perfect for the ASW20C.

I will defintely be looking into renting somewhere, but for sure it would be fun flying along with some local guys...

@Rob: I've got a FAA license based on my german license with a SEL and glider rating. So I'm good to go here in the US.

@tdukerich: which places do you recommend for soaring in this area?

Soaring around the Phoenix area leads you to Turf Soaring (Say Hi to Roy for me) if you are in the north Valley,
or Estrella (Arizona Soaring) in the south valley (Say hi to Jeremy for me there).

I live / work quite aways SW of Phoenix, but I'll shoot you a PM with my contact info if you're here for a while. I do get
into the Phx area quite a bit, and would enjoy meeting up with someone to compare notes on flying in your country!

Rob is correct about Turf and Estrella. Both are commercial operations. There are two clubs; Prescott Soaring (winch operation) and Tucson Soaring (El Tiro). Even though I live in north Phoenix I drive to El Tiro. It's a great club and the soaring is awesome.
