We flew too the Flying M ranch last Sunday for breakfast, about as close to Idaho as we get around here.
They serve breakfast in the old ranch house at the West end of the strip, (for donations.) Starts at 8:00 am Sunday only, call ahead to make sure they cook enough 503-662-3222. Good people and a fun place to visit.
The folks that own the original lodge are not aviation friendly and have a box trailer parked on the new property line on the original strip. The strip has been lengthened to the East to about 1300ft between the threshold and the box trailer, one way strip with a good approach.

Thanks for the report. I called them about a month and a half ago and they said they were going to see about lengthening the runway......looks like it happened. I will see about getting up that way

So when did the eatery at the Flying M start operations? I assume from the posts that this it NOT at the lodge restaurant? Where is the new eating house in relation to the lodge eatery? They're open for business sunday mornings only?
I've flown down to the Flying M for the weekend a couple times in the past with friends, had a blast both times. We were bummed out when they shut her down. When they did so, I thought that the airstrip was closed also. But maybe not?
Do the new lodge owners rent out the cabins or rooms in the "bunkhouse hotel" to fly-in visitors? How about drive-ins?

I really don't know all the details, call them to find out what is really going on. There has been alot of rumors floating around.
I do know that Brice and Barbra don't own the main lodge any more, and that they are serving breakfast in the old house at the South West end of the strip on Sundays only. They are great people, I think they are doing this mostly for the locals and the pilots that have grown to enjoy their hospitality. The strip is open and has been lengthened to the East, easy approach through the valley and Fairly wide strip that is slightly uphill to the West.

I know you said you don't know many details, but can you tell me if the airstrip was closed down for a while and re-opened, or was it open the whole time? I thought the strip was closed down thwen the lodge was.
The Flying M'd be a good place to just fly in for a picnic, if there's any place to do your picnicking wthout trespassing on hostile ground.

The strip was closed for a while, although there is a tri-pacer based there that I believe was using the East end of the strip.
I think the Mitchell's kept part of their property, but most of the original strip went with the lodge. I am guessing they lengthened the strip around 600' to the East. They still have the horse stables and provide rides.

Breakfast starts at 8:00 am and is kept on a hot plate after that . Call ahead and let them know you are coming.

The Shortfield lists it at 2125 feet long. So what's the correct length?

A bit of history; The Historic Lodge was sold to pay off a bank note. Some disagreements between the buyers and the sellors resulted in a fence appearing mid-way on the airstrip. After a little modification, there is now 1300' of usable strip; dirt and rocky but doable with trike gear.

Savannah-Tom, Guy, and I flew in this morning. Took dounuts. They supplied coffee. Mitchell's were out on a trailride so no breakfast. It looks short and I guess is; certainly gets your attention on final.
