I fly out of Hillsboro airport. As far as ice goes, its all about risk management just like back country flying there are ways to manage your risk while flying IFR. Luckily for the area that I fly in we are able to enjoy high enough freezing levels that we can fly (atleast in the terminal area) through almost all of the winter. The biggest key to staying safe is to always have an exit option and a very through preflight briefing.

For 2009:

1) Fly MUCH more (I guess just about everyone would say that.)
2) Work on my crosswind landing skills. This is big for me as I'm not as competent as I'd like to be and as a result opt not to fly when I should be able to, which in turn has a limiting impact on my cross country flying plans.
3) Scout out residential areas near "country" airports so I can move closer to my airplane. I am now 30 - 35 minutes away and that is simply too far.
4) Expand my grass field adventures!

Like most of you I hereby resolve to fly more, hopefully lot's more and to use the plane for fun things, steelhead fishing in Yakatat, moose hunting, sheep hunting, bear hunting and on and on.

Charlie is my magic carpet I just have to take the time to use it.

The cost of flying is high but I don't really see it ever coming down much so just as well do it now!!!!

Treat my wife better 'cause she deserves it for putting up with me.

You actually want to try a landing at Mile Hi with your 182...???? A lot of tail draggers have stayed there after landing... and there's no fish there either...

I'll wait till I get a Scout one of these years. I hear a 182 will go in and out on the right day. But, I'm not going to try anytime soon (Unless I have JoeCub or BH in the right seat. I may even consider my truckin buddy Scouter114!).

two years ago I flew over it and there was an upside down cub near the top....I then landed at Cabin Crk and fished the day away till sunset and flew home to JC and a steak dinner and a nice 18 Year old scotch by the fire...Much more enjoyable than figuring out how to get my upside down cub off Mile hi Mt......

mile hi would be a blast in a 182! pick your day and your right seat person

very carefully. friend even put "stock" 172' in there...like dirt-biking, it

is just a tilted straightaway...departure happens quick...! tipped-over

super-cubs are a common occurence in central idaho...most would do

a lot better with smaller tires, if they could get over not having the

"cool" factor....

Increase my grass landings vs hard surface landing percentage to more than 25% (14.5% in 2008)

Of course I need to decrease my gross weight by 20 lbs so I can carry more stuff into shorter places.

Then I want to build my hangar.
