Ok, I gotta find a logbook going back that far to see if Phillips was still there when I first flew through there. It may have already been gone by then.

When flying to Fairbanks, which is the preferred strip?
Fairbanks International, Chena Marina, or Metro Field?

I have not been there (FAI) for about 24 years, but when I was there they had the nicest camp ground that I have seen at any airport anywhere. You could camp with your plane and each camping place had trees between the other spots. I hope it is still the way it was.

FAI camping is great! Loaner bikes, firewood, etc.

Thanks folks - I will take the Philips and run it down.
Hard to believe that I might have been there too early for Gump to remember.
With much gratitude

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

Thanks a bunch - Philips looks right because the women had transportation waiting to take them to the University which looks close by. Then I was dropped off at FAI for a hop to Anchorage to do a weeks worth of logistical junk in a blacked out basement.

Interesting, it looks like the guy that preserved my caribou rack was operating out of the former Bachner Aircraft Service hangar.
I never realized there used to be an airfield up there.
