Off airport aviation in little piston powered airplanes has become a spectator sport. Like all spectator sports, many participants seek to monetize their participation. Using an airborne fuel to noise converter for the primary purpose of gaining YouTube fame is about as close to bush flying as rodeo is to ranching, but it is what it is. I’m not much of a fan of either, but not a hater either. It’s not that tough to tell the difference between a bush pilot and strip bagger so I have no trouble deciding who I’d rather spend time with and pay attention to.
I do sympathize with those that are genuinely concerned this social media spectator sport is driving behavior that will ultimately result in new restrictions. That’s not a concern in my part of the planet but it eventually will be if trends continue.
Full disclosure of my hypocrisy here. I have a YouTube channel with a whopping 40 subscribers. I have it so a few friends and family that politely feign interest in my aviation addiction can see what I’m talking about. They are the most boring videos on the Internet. No narration. No music. Usually no people. Just my feeble attempt to give a few people a window on the world I’m privileged to view from time to time. If that makes me a wannabe rodeo cowboy I can assure the world that part of my career isn’t going too well

.
Cheers.
