Forest Service wants Big Creek rebuilt!!!
Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.
From IAA newsletter:
Fears that the U.S. Forest Service might nix redevelopment of
the Big Creek Lodge appear unfounded.
“We want those services there,” Krassel District Ranger Joe
Harper told members of the Idaho Airstrip Network Steering
Committee in mid-February. “We had every intention of
renewing the 20-year land lease when it expires in two years.”
The historic lodge and an adjacent cabin burned to the ground
last October from an apparent electrical problem in the lodge’s
attic. Owner Scott Fodor of Michigan has not said if he plans to
rebuild. His first task will be to remove the debris left by the fire
once the snow melts, said Harper. The road to Big Creek usually
does not open until late June or early July, so it is unlikely any
construction could be completed this year if Fodor decides to
rebuild.
The Big Creek Lodge had provided food, lodging and outfitting
since the 1930s. Located next to a relatively long and wide grass
airstrip, Big Creek is a popular destination for many pilots.

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.
Great news. I wonder if some sort of petition to the owner just to express the amount of interest in it would help. Just thinking out loud.

I have his address and phone number if someone wants to contact him and publish his intentions here. Does anyone have an email address for him? That might be less intrusive.

If were me I'd want to be left alone to make my own decision. He's the only one who knows if it is worth it to him. I think we all agree that it would be worth it to us but we aren't the ones paying the bills and dealing with everything that will have to go into rebuilding.

I found an email address on
www.bigcreekidaho.com. I sent him the following email:
Hello,
I am a pilot that has flown into Big Creek, and I've eaten a few meals at your lodge, and stayed a few nights at your cabins. I was very sorry to hear that the lodge burned down.
I frequent a website called
www.backcountrypilots.com where there is occasional discussion wondering what your future plans are for the place.
Please consider joining the site! It would be a great way to be in touch with many of your customers.
If you don't have an interest in doing that, I would be happy to post any information that you would care to share with me.
Thank you,
