Four Corners Tailwheel training

Good Morning!

Any 4 corners area tailwheel training centers? It seems the westslope and 4 corners of Colorado is void of much flight training.

CFI / CFII here trapped in SoCal for a bit, eager to get back to the 4 corners area. Need to add on my tailwheel and would love to teach a bit as well. I will also be heading up to AK for some bush/off field landing training.

Travis:

Haven't used them, but Redtail in Moab has a pretty good reputation and I know does a fair amount of backcountry teaching, etc.

Get in touch with Gary in this forum (Shortfielder) who lives in Durango. Gary might know someone in Durango / Farmington area.

Good luck.

I'm in Durango and I can report no good tailwheel instructors working here, lots of good tailwheel pilots though. For my money I travel up to Fort Collins and train with Dave Younkin when I need to. I think he's about th ebest in the business.

Re: Four Corners Tailwheel training

When I got my Cub a couple of years ago, I thought I would get the insurance to do instruction. I had five guys lined up for TW checkouts and a couple of primary students. My insurance guy said "you won't be happy", I said "humor me". He called back a couple of days later. I am not doing instruction in the Cub. I figured it would have been close to $80/hr just to cover the insurance increase. Good on you guys that bite the bullet and do it anyway.

Go to pittstraining.com located in Montrose, Co I did a little pitts aerobatic training with Jim and really liked him. He also does bush flying training.

Re: Four Corners Tailwheel training

Thanks for all the information. Learned of a few operations that are out there.

Good to know about the Pitts training. I had not heard of him. I will have to go get some training in a pitts just to add to the experience.

I am heading up to AK to get some tailwheel AK time, with the goal of instructing in tailwheel as well floats. Eventually making it back to the west slope of CO.
