Fox12 Portland piece on Hillsboro Aviation

I caught this piece on the news the other night, and thought that it was a welcome change from the seemingly constant barrage of stories about violence and murder and generally bad stuff that Portland news desks seem to be so fond of. Plus, in this climate of defense of GA, I thought it was nice to see a flying related piece that doesn't involve a crash.

I've been kicking around going there for the helicopter school, haven't decided yet though, but it looks like a really good school, and they work with Portland Community College. It would sure be a lot of fun :D
Here is another video they have:

I currently work there and overall I am pretty happy with my job, the people I work with and management.

The pilot for the HIO based Fox12 helicopter is a friend of mine. A Portland native, she built her hours flying S77's (?) out to the oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Our kids live near PDX and HIO so we got over there a lot. There are alway a bunch of R22's working the pattern.

Re: Fox12 Portland piece on Hillsboro Aviation

It is good to hear a positive piece. However, I always find it kind of funny that they always reference the "8-12 months" to complete training, leading viewers to believe that they could be flying for the airlines or a commercial helicopter gig at the end of that time. You never hear someone saying, "...Once done with that training, you'll need to build more flight time by either instructing for pennies or paying X thousands of dollars out of your own pocket before you will be hirable at a job that will land you a yearly income that is a fraction of your debt for the first 5+ years." But I guess that wouldn't be good for business or for encouraging people to learn to fly if a career was the end goal.
