Free GPS navigation software (open source) available

Hello,

Sometimes ago I discovered a fantastic navigation software (born and very used for gliders, but good for us too) It's name is LK8000, open source, fully configurable. It has replaced anything else in my cockpit (I can define, finally, all my airspaces, waypoints and so on as I like)

It can be loaded on any Windows CE PNA (or mini PC or tablet with Windows). No Android or iOS.

No advertising, no hidden tricks.

You can find it here: http://www.lk8000.it

The team is searching volounteers too to develop furtherly the GA section. Anyone available here?

This looks great! Wish I had a windows tablet. I have an iPad...do you know of any good software for that? I was using Avare on my andriod phone but there isnt anything for iPad that is free...with no subscriptions. I have Aviation Chart Viewer on the ipad but its not that great. It'll get me by though.

I have the iPAD too, but I don't know of any navigation free software for it.

On the other side, a simple Windows CE PNA (a car navigator) is really inexpensive, and LK8000 is totally free (and no subscription fees).

Add to this the fact that you can modify waypoints, airspaces, and everything as you like (all these files are in text format), make it the most customizable software available in the world.

You can get a PNA for very few bucks (and you can use it for your car too!), IMoreover, technically speaking, a PNA is a dedicated device which performs navigation functions only, and nothing else. From the reliability point of view, this is a point which must not be underestimated (btw glider pilots use int in world-class competition: this should mean something!), so at the end the TCO is ridiculous. Finally a 5" screen PNA is easy to fit in the smallest cockpit (on the contrary than a standard tablet).

Please take a peek at the LK8000 website and documentation...

Ciao!
