If this were a piece of paper, it would be blurred by tear drops. I have decided to sell these three planes so my wife can fulfill her dream of a Family Health Clinic. Unfortunately for our pocketbook I suffer from an illness that is very costly in time and money "Aviationitis". It is an infection that smart, good looking people get when they leave the ground in a small plane for the first time. There is no known cure except maybe CFIT and similar afflictions. This disease also makes parting with anything to do with airplanes very difficult.

I will be keeping one plane an F35 Bonanza. Selling the 180 is by far the hardest as it has been my plane of choice for the last 2 years. The hardest part is not going to have a backcountry plane for a time.

I'm going to give everyone on BCP first chance at these planes. In the next couple of days I'll post pics and specs in three different posts. I'm willing to scan logbooks, and I'm willing to deliver the 180 or 150 anywhere in the USA or Canada for expenses, with the exception of flying over big water.

If the 180 sells to a BCP'er from this marketplace I will donate1% of the selling price to BCP. As you can tell I would really love to see one of you guys get it.

You may remember the thread I had about 8 months ago rebuilding the gear boxes.

From a BCP standpoint though why not sell the Bonanza and keep the 180?!?

Floatsnskis, Your last question is a good one. The truth is the 180 is more marketable. If I sold the Bo I would get considerably less. The whole reason I've made this decision was to get liquid, not to get rid of planes. Believe me this was not an easy choice, but I do think it's the right one.

You may be surprised at how capable a back country airplane the Bonanza is. Not quite built for rock piles or soft stuff, but there are a lot of "good" back country strips that Bonanzas use pretty regularly.

MTV, I agree, I have flown this particular Bo many times off of grass strips. It handles it very well.

1969 180H information.

While the total times are a bit higher this plane has been exceptionally well maintained. It has been annualled every year since 1990 and most years before that. I have oil analysis dating back to a new P-Ponk engine, all showing "values appear normal". The engine has a 2000 hour TBO as opposed to an 1800 hour, and it is running very strong. Also this plane has kind of a storied past, it was one of a group of plane the flew to Russia as part of an Alaska Airmens VFR Route they were trying to promote at the time. It also spent a good part of its life as a part of the Iditirod Airforce. Neither one of those were flown by me, but were flown by the previous owners.

In light of how the respective fields are......
It would be a better bet to be selling a clinic, and buying the airplanes?
But I'd venture neither positions are wonderful from a strictly financial position.

170B Information

It's dismantled. I personally have not done much with it. I bought it last January. The work done to this point is fantastic. The fuselage, tail feathers, control surfaces have all been completely gone through.
I do have all the logs, Acft reg # N2664D, S/N 20816, TT airframe 2958.
The only damage in the history is right after it was delivered to the Dept of Forestry in Georgia , RT wing panel, left gear spring, lower cowling, and rudder tip assy 14 August 1952.
The previous owner has gone through the fuselage, six skins have been replaced.
Rebuilt horz
Door posts fwd disassembled, cleaned and reinstalled.
New firewall installed.
Roof panel removed, cleaned and reinstalled. Everything that was disassembled was glass bead blasted, treated and primed with FR primer.
New control cables from McFarlane.
Have the orig 170 gear springs and a set of 180 gear springs. P-Ponk mod installed.
Aux fuel tank 14 gal mounted in aft fuselage.
The wings have light corrosion inside on skin and ribs, I didn't get to these yet. Have new outbd ribs.
I have an engine that came from acft N2577D, O-300- B, S/N 12038-D-6-B, TSMOH 1593.5 w/all accessories, that had a prop strike.
However, I have an overhauled crankshaft in box and yellow tagged camshaft for the O-300-B
Reconditioned "O" time McCauley propeller P/N 1A170, S/N 55910.
No radio equip to speak of. Old Edo Air ADF and Nav com

Sorry you had to part with the 180 Marty, but I'm sure glad it went to me! No time at all to get up and over crow pass and by the time that's done, I need to descend and get that thing slowed down, the commute is over just too dang fast!

OE, now you've got me tearing up like a big baby. It's like I said from the beginning it is a great plane. As you know it wasn't easy to give up. However, if it was to be sold, I am very thankful it went to you and Mellisa, and that it is back in Alaska where it belongs. It was a wonderful trip delivering it to Birchwood, and your hospitality was unexpected but greatly appreciated.

Have fun with it and keep us all post on BCP of your improvements and adventures.

Yes it is. That is in my hanger in Luverne, MN. (KLYV). when I brought it there I fit everything in a 26' U-Haul truck. I also have a whole bunch of other 170 parts that I would include for a total of $22,500. If your interested send me a PM.
