Ok guys, I guess we wern't really ready for this. Stacey and I are having second thoughts about selling the 170. Ever since posting it for sale yesterday we just haven't felt good about it, almost like there has been a death in the family! We really do love the airplane and it has done everything we've asked it to in the last 3 years. We fly in the mountains a lot with a full load of camping gear and an 80lb dog. We have one kid on the way and plan on having one more. I know eventually the 170 won't be able to take all of us to do the things we want. We are still going to be on the lookout for a second airplane that we can take on longer XC flights and backcountry trips and we will keep the 170 for local flying and short day trips. I'm sorry for wasting the time of those who are interested in the airplane, I hope you understand. It might be for sale again sometime in the future.

I just opened up Barnstormers.com and saw you listed it and figured you're probably going to be looking for some sort of backcountry baby bus . What a great airplane with lots of memories for you guys. This won't take long to sell. It's a great bird! Heck it's almost famous! Congratulations!

I switched to a 180 from a 170, which was set up very similar to yours, and I must say that I miss the 170. It did nearly everything that I asked of it. It was very easy to connect with. The visibility was amazing. The engine was super smooth and dependable. The annuals were inexpensive. The 170 feels much lighter, and was still plenty sturdy. I abused my 170 in rough field situations at times and she was always the exact same polite and forgiving bird after the abuse. The only thing that I don't miss is barely clearing the tress on takeoff when the days were hot.

Thank God. I wan't getting very good offers on selling the wife and kids.

Start trying to pry your way into some stick time in the type of plane you want to upgrade to. I'm pretty blessed with lots of friends with lots of different types of planes that allow me to fly them, and some pretty cool types to boot.
Truth is, it's always nice to get back in the 170, partially cause it fits like a well broke in glove, but it's just so nice and light on the controls, simple, inexpensive (as far as airplanes go) and on and on...... Remember, most of them do many things well, but usually don't do any specific thing great!
I was excited to see what you guy's were gunna upgrade into though.

Not a day goes by that I wish I didn't have to sell Luscombe in order to buy something that will fit my family. I'm glad you don't have to sell the 170. I will say that every time I fly the plane I'm trying to buy really enjoy it and think it will be worth. But then I get in the Luscombe to fly home and I start to wonder again.

You should sell it, buy a house, and watch from the comfort of your office as the new buyer has a shitload of fun in it while you prepare to mow the lawn and build a new fence.

Glad you got the package, Tom.

I've heard more than a few people regret selling there 170s, I don't want that to happen to me. Keeping the 170 won't cost us anything since it is completely paid for. That and the fact I've put bout 10k into modifications for it that i will never get back help in the decision to keep it. It's still a really great plane that we will still have a lot of fun flying. We still want to get another plane with more useful load and that's better suited for long cross country flights but is still capable in the backcountry (who doesn't want two airplanes anyways ). I have something I'm working on right now but the timing just might not work out. I won't say what it is so I don't turn anyone else onto the deal. I'll give you a hint though... with full tanks it will still haul over 1000lbs .
