Fuel Boost Pump Overhaul?
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
Hey everyone,
In the last few months, my boost pump has started to drip out of the overflow tube that sticks out of the cowl flap. It's dripping at a rate of 1 drip every 90 seconds. It's a Duke pump that is supposed to be overhauled every 10 years and I'm sure it's been longer than that. So I'm doing my homework on who does overhauls and what my options are. I've found the new ones from CJ aviation and Weldon, as well as the overhauled ones from QAA and Rapco. I've found one outfit out of WI who will overhaul my unit called Aeromotors LLC. They are by far the most cost effective.
Anyone used them? Or do you all have any recommendations for a shop you've used?
Thanks,
Cory

I used then for the dukes on the maule, no problems as advertised, worked good, seems cost was 1/3 of c/j and others and they didn't have it to long, I did coordinate with him when it was best to get to his shop i was happy

Hi Cory,
I just had my boost pump for a Maule M-5 overhauled (2 weeks ago) with Aeromotors in WI. Everything went smooth and it works great and looks great. They listed every part that they replaced and gave me a detailed report including output performance after overhaul. Turn time was about a week. Aircraft Spruce wanted almost $1300 for a overhauled pump. One place wanted $1400!!! Aeromotors was $400 plus shipping back and forth. Weldon does not do my pump btw. I did call them as well. Good luck.

I've used these guys for several boost pumps for the IO540s on our Aero Commander, good work, fast, and reasonable pricing. They can probably do an exchange for you to speed up the process.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.
I have had lots of hydraulic pumps done at CJ and have been very happy with them. I get all my boost pumps from QAA, vac pumps, vac regulators and had nothing but good service.
Sometimes the cheap overhaul price is a best case scenario on a pump with no major parts unserviceable. Maybe check if that low price includes any major items...

Dukes of Chatsworth ,CA. is now out of the small Fuel pump Business - turning over all of the tooling/ repair/ sales to Aircraft Accessories INC. -Dukes is now centered on Big airplane stuff and Military Contracts. Had to get a 210 fuel pump (Dukes) overhauled and Aircraft Accessories did it for about 1200 bucks this last spring. Called in order with Credit Card and part showed up next morning via FedEx> put old defunct in box for return.

Awesome guys! Thanks for the info. They told me that they stand by their work and will fix anything that comes up. Sounded like a good, small operation. Glad to hear they do good work. I'll be pulling it here in the next week or so. They told me that they tell people 1-2 weeks, but if they aren't busy, they will have it done in a few days.

Well, I'm impressed. They got my pump on Monday and I got it back on Friday. Pretty nice turn around time. Especially since I'm off for the next few weeks. I didn't want the plane down while I was home. I had planned on getting it in today but wasn't able to get up to the hanger. Hopefully Monday. I'll follow up again when it is installed.
