Fuselage recover

Looking for information on average time to do a fabric recover on a two seat side by side aircraft. I have done some fabric work, (practice panels, rudder, horizontal stab etc.) Trying to estimate the time to recover (fuselage only) with poly fiber. Thanks

Truly superior pilots are those who use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

Re: Fuselage recover

I've never done a fusalage, I can tell you what it took for 2 Ercoupe wings 16 years ago.
first weekend: a few hours for 2 people to remove the wings and strip the old fabric off of them.
During the week: 1 person spent about 15-20 hours getting everything cleaned up, primed, etc.
second weekend: 2 people all day saturday and sunday to get the fabric in place, glued on, heat shrunk, screws and tapes, first coat of dope brushed on, inspection rings and drain grommets in place, etc.
second week: 1 person about 45 mins. to spray a coat of dope every 2 hours for 5 days. (bring a good book)
let them sit and dry for 2 weeks
about 2 days to sand the tape edges and spray on the last coat of dope.
depending on what the plane is, that should be close for a fusalage.

Re: Fuselage recover

Here's from the notes in my kitfox builder's log about covering just the fuselage. This was a new kit so no time spent removing an old cover or refurbishing the fuselage. It was my first experience with covering an airplane. I did the whole job by myself using the polyfiber manual.

Gluing on and shrinking the fabric.........44 hrs
One brush coat of poly brush...............10 hrs
Puting on the finish tapes...................28.5 hrs
puting fabric on the butt ribs...............7.5 hrs
masking the fuselage for painting..........7 hrs
spraying 2 coats of poly brush...............7 hrs
spraying 3 cross coats of poly spray........7 hrs
spraying 2 coats of polytone.................7 hrs

Total = 118 hours

Fresh out of the shop after painting

Edited to add spraying poly brush
