Gar Aero adapters on Grove wheels?

Anyone know if Gar adapters will work on grove wheels? I'm thinking this would be the most affordable option for me right now and I need to do something about the tiny tires on the plane. 26" Goodyears are still an option but I think I'd like just a little more tire; 29" Air Hawks would be about right.

Re: Gar Aero adapters on Grove wheels?

I called Alaska Tundra Tire and they don't know of anyone running their adapters on Grove wheels. The adapter is designed to fit the bead of the wheel where the tire would be so it makes sense to me that the adapter would fit Grove wheels because they are designed to accept the same tire as Cleveland wheels.

Whee, find some Navajo wheels, 195, Beech 18, all 10 wheels, you would have to maybe play with some different bearings to makethem work on your axles.
I maybe could come up with a set a friend of mine had on his Tcrate with 29's, maybe even some tires to go with.

That's a good idea GT! Now I just need to figure out if I can use grove calipers with them. I guess I'll need new calipers anyways so maybe that part doesn't matter.

Call Robbie at Grove. He is a pleasure to work with.

I put 26 Goodyears on my 180 Cessna and love them. Glad that I went this route. I will put Bushwheels on if I ever base my plane on an unpaved field.

I think that 29 Airhawks will be a lot of tire for your Luscombe. It really hurts your takeoff roll needing to spool up big heavy meats. I really felt the 29 bushwheels on my 170. I think the 26 GYs (24 inch diameter, and maybe two pounds more than 8.50s) are a nice compromise for a lower horsepower plane.

Already called Grove and Robbie is out of town till Tuesday so I'll call back then. 29" would be a lot of tire for my Luscombe but these will be for an experimental what will be happy on 29s.

Scolo:

Do you have to have a field approval for the 26s or is it STCd? Sounds like you are operating on pavement fairly often? Does the rubber stand up well on the pavement. Sounds like they might be a nice compromise?

Thanks! Larry
