These nuisance call outs are the reason I wired the 396 audio into a unused nav audio input on my audio panel. If I'm flying at 500' bucking a headwind I get nuisance call outs for windmill farms. So if I want to quickly turn off the audio I can.
One time having the terrain call out saved me from having a more serious surprise...
I was just west of the Atlanta class B inner to the surface ring in light rain. Visibility was 2-3nm, bucking a 15knt headwind with a 700-1000' ceiling. but the air was smooth so it wasn't great, but not really challenging flying. The terrain warning starts going off and what do I find...
I have been flying in a valley and there is a 500' wall of trees heading my way. It was nice having those 120sec to plan what I was going to do which was a no brainier hitting the page button and going to the terran page and seeing that all I needed to do is fallow the valley for a mile and then continue my course.
After the flight I couldn't find the valley I flew through on the ATL terminal area chart.
This is why I might turn the sensitivity to low and/or turn the audio off temporarily but never off in the 396.
