Garmin 430 Question
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
Good Day All,
Just ferried an aircraft from the U.S.A. to Canada. The data base in the 430W is up to date. However...when I tried to load in any Canadian Airport Fixes...they were not found. There was some nav aid fixes (the ones I tried anyway) but no airport fixes. Also in the "nearest" menu...only the nearest airports on the U.S.A. side were available.
Should this be a North American Database including Canada?
Any hints??
Cheers

Probably not.
For my trip to Tuktoyaktuk this August, I got a 28 day update for my 430 (not 430W) - not cheap. As far as I can tell, I had to get the 3 packages below to get Canada: they were all bundled together.
10127717 NavData.Coverage.Garmin.GNS 400/500 Series.Latin & South America
10127716 NavData.Coverage.Garmin.GNS 400/500 Series.United States & Canada
10018211 NavData.Coverage.Garmin.GNS 400/500 Series.United States & Latin America
Generally I tool around with just western coverage of the USA.
Also, I got lots of false terrain alerts in the Northwest Territories cruising along at 1000 msl - seeing as the highest thing around was 6 feet, they were very annoying.

You can buy just western US for 325 (year subscription), or all US for 395, or all north and south America for 500. For VFR flying or even buckshee IFR, just a single update once a year is fine if the extra $100 stings a little too much for you. Garmin 430 databases are purchased from Jeppesen.
