Garmin GPSmap 695

In my C180, I have a Garmin GPSmap 695 in a AirGizmo mount.
I quite like it when it is working, but start up is getting more difficult.
When I turn on the avionics master, it used to come on immediately.
Not any more ...
Often I need to remove it from the docking station and unplug it.
Other times I have had to remove the battery and then reinstall to get it to start up.
Sometimes it is no problem.
It has done in previous years, actually I replaced the battery with new last year and it did it less often, although on occasion the problem returned.
Now the problem seems to be back with an annoying frequency.
Suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Re: Garmin GPSmap 695

You may have already tried this, but my first step would be to clean the contacts between the 696 and the gizmo mount. Spray some contact cleaner and grab a fine grit sandpaper to renew the contact points.

Re: Garmin GPSmap 695

Background question. Do you have a card in the SD Slot? Sometimes these units will hang for a while while trying to load a file in from the SD card. If no card, then it is not your problem. If you have not tried a reset, it may help resolve the issue, but all the configurations and such will be lost. So note what you will have to re-enter. Then:
Turn the unit off
Hold down the following keys :
- Far left soft key
- Far right soft key
- CLR button
Then while holding the above, turn the unit on and release the power button
Continue to hold the three buttons for 20 seconds, after which the device will be reset

It is rather like the running joke on the show "The IT Crowd" did you turn it on and off.
