Noted on the fuel flow equipment, appreciate that. Wonder if I shouldn’t do a major upgrade on engine instruments while at this too. These projects sure do snowball.

A1 yea been talking to Cliff on your recommendation, will likely overhaul the C58 with him this week. Appreciate that lead, good guy seems like.

Fuel flows are really critical on these engines, so definitely get someone who knows how to set these engines up do the job once the engine is installed. And, generally, we set the high flows a bit higher than Continental calls for. These engines need cooling when they're making power, and fuel is the tool.

I'm looking at a 182 that has an IO520D. It's about ready for an overhaul. My plans always were to upgrade to a Pponk from a stock 0-0470 if the plane I found had a stock engine. Whats the biggest advantage in keeping a fuel injection system over a carb on the 520? Injection systems may provide slightly better fuel economy, but have added costs associated with overhaul, and when things break.
No carb ice. Better fuel economy. More power and smoother.

Yes to all the above, and Squash's comment as well. Fuel injection is kinda 20th Century, compared to the 19th Century carburetor.

Get GAMIs installed, and a graphic engine monitor, and you'll be amazed at how close each cylinder runs in CHT and EGT to all the others.

If you don't have a graphic engine monitor, DO NOT attempt to run the engine lean of peak.

If I never owned another carbureted engine, I'd be happy.

Thank you all for the insight. I have to reprogram my brain from keeping things a simple as possible to embracing the better mouse trap. Ain't easy as I age...
Thanks again.

The more this or any thread gathers info, the better, as it’s here for anyone to search up for years after. I like to see threads wander.

The new heart.
