General Aviation News

One of our home boys made the cover, wrote a nice article and BCP gets mentioned too.

Re: General Aviation News

I need to throw together an article on my experiences with the electric (folding) Montague bike, they are always looking for filler. They've published me 3 or 4 times over the years, go figure.

Re: General Aviation News

I've seen more & more articles about back-country / STOL flying in the e-newsletter GA News emails me every day. I don't know if it's because publisher ben Sclair is (getting) into it, or just because it's getting more popular in general-- witness Diamond's new "Tundra Star" model.

I believe it is getting more popular. You can only do the $100 hamburger so many times before it gets old.

As to Diamond's Tundra, pure marketing genius. Combining the attraction of SUV type of a/c with the economy of a turbo diesel. What other new offerings of 4 place a/c that will cruise at 130 kt while sipping 5 gph and land on back country strips? $247K USD.

Haven't been out to get the magazine lately but would still guess the cover strip is Dewey More.

Talk is cheap. From what I've seen of the performance of Diamonds, I don't think it'd be my first choice (or second, or third, or.....) for STOL / backcountry op's. Esp at $247K.

I did say marketing genius, not a breakthrough STOL and cruise design. Diamond's intended market is Russia with their 16,000 grass strips.

1400' take off roll and 890' landing along with 630 fpm climb is hardly STOL in my book. What rings my STOL bell is a very light a/c (can't beat the Laws of Physics) with liberal doses of hp. I like the CH-701, 195 lbs lighter than the CH-750, MTOW 1100 lbs, with a Rotax 914 and Zipper Big Bore jugs and slugs. At 135 hp, 840 lbs solo with 1/2 fuel, should produce some impressive numbers.
