Glastar 2+2?
Aircraft building and project-level overhaul forum -- Kitplanes, experimental amateur-built, homebuilding, or even restoration of certified aircraft.
I have an oportunity to maybe go in with my current Champ partner on a Glastar 2+2. Long story involed in it, but in short, it was an unfinnished kit bought for parts for one of his customers who broke some stuff. He almost has the whole kit.
My concern with a Glastar is it seems a little on the fast side for off airport stuff. If it were going to be on floats I would be really into it, but on wheels, I'm not sure. The cruise speed and range definatly has me interested in it though.
Any input from any Glastar owners here? Anyone else considering one?

Friend of mine has a taildragger 180HP Glastar..has about 1200 hrs on it..flies it all over..has his own 1400ft strip at 5600ft in CO. It performs very similar to my 180HP Citabria for takeoff and landing..been to many backcountry ID strips. Hope this gives you some idea. HC

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.

That helps. A Scout or the like has been on the short list, if the performance in takeoff and landing is close, then the Glastar with it higher cruise is interesting to me. It is a ways off from being a whole airplane, or even getting started as a project. If I were to partner with him on it, I guess I would start working double time on the Champ to get it done, and then move the Glastar into my hangar. At this point though, neither of us are sure we want a partner in our next aircraft. My main concern with having a partner is not having as much freedom as to where I can take it, his is that he does not keep aircraft for long.

No, I can only afford aircraft that are broken, unfinnished, or abondoned. I have more time and skill than I do money right now, as well as the tools to get the job done. I am hoping that some POS I got for a pile of majic beans will someday evolve into an Oshkosh Champion that I built. I've done it with plenty of motorcycles, airplanes may be bigger, but certainly are a little simpler than the fancy Italian stuff I play with.
