Going to Pick it up

Early AM flight on Delta from Grand Junction to Spokane. Plane is in S83 in Idaho. Hope to get the new addition to the household home to MOab tomorrow afternoon. May the Thunderstorms stay away tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Going to Pick it up

We have some fires burning in central Idaho that are really putting out the smoke. Make sure you check for TFRs and watch out for the smoke.

Congrats

No TFR's yet for the route. I have a trip (run a mountain bike tour company) that got turned around in the Sawtooths 2 days ago with a fire. Heading to Missoula, Pocatello, SLC and CNY. Hope the thunderstorms stay away.

The salmon area is full of smoke right now. Might be a tough haul from Missoula to pokey. There are three fires burning in the salmon area. Today most of the smoke was being blown right into your route. Might think about going to Grangeville then to pokey or whatever route that will keep you out of the smoke.

Nice plane Travis! I'm sure you'll love it. You should come to the Austin Fly-In in a few weeks!

Re: Going to Pick it up

If you are 'VFR' at cruising altitude in big smoke or haze you can need to be/end up COMPLETELY on the gauges.....
Looking straight down and seeing land is NOT an acceptable reference point for safe outside reference flying. [-X
John K. Jr.'s final flight was at night-but smoke/haze can have the same unhappy results, and can sneak up on you easier since you ease into the trap gradually.... [-X

Nothin' new, old wisdom.....

Oh, yes, congratulations on the new plane! Tailwinds and safe flying to you!

Re: Going to Pick it up

made it to SLC.. too many thunderstorms between here and Moab. Lots of turbulence, reminds me why late afternoon in the mountains is not a lot of fun. Fires around, not too much smoke. Great airplane. Now I need to figure out it's preferred power settings/fuel flow.. been burning a bit more fuel than the owner did. Lean lean lean..

Lots of turbulence....

All you can do is get high....-er, get altitude...
For thermals, that is.
Also start very early-as in lift off at the proverbial 'crack of dawn'...
It is fun to see the sun rise in the summer as you climb through 10,000 ft. :D 8)

For thunder boomers I recommend a deck of cards, and a game of solitaire on the ground....
For sure the on the ground part!

Good call! =D>

O2 helps with the 'gettin' high' part. It is particularly easy when by yourself....
