Going to Sulphur Creek???

I know some of you guys are Idaho residents and I was wondering if anyone would know of the status of Sulphur Creek. I had heard that they had shut down the strip and fires were close?? I wanted to do a lot of fishing over labor day on labor day, anybody know if the fires are close there and whether it will be possible to fish?

Any thoughts?? Input would be greatly appreciated.

If Sulphur Creek is shut down, would there be any good alternatives that are away from the fires?

I tried to call the lodge, but they are hard to get.

One more question, I need to get a fishing license. Is there anyplace that I could fly in to and get a license within close walk of an airport?

Thanks!! Larry

If you are giong North and don't want to overfly and back track you can also land at Fairfield and walk across the highway to the Market Basket grocery store.
I'll also check and see if they sell them at the Silver Creek General Store at the Picabo strip. You don't have to walk across anything there, you have to not hit the building while parking.

Thanks guys! Fairfield is right on my way as I am coming from NM. Do they have fuel?

Thanks for the help. Larry

Motion lotion.

No fuel at Fairfield unfortunately. It's too bad because it's the smoothest dirt runway you'll ever land on.
You could stop at my house (KGNG) and fuel up on the way. We are about 30 miles straight south of Fairfield. Right now $3.99/ gal on the self serve pump for 100LL. Then just a quick hop over the hills to Fairfield.
Or if you want you could use the courtesy car (or my pickup for that matter) and run into Gooding and get one at the Shell station in town (3 miles drive) right here.

Just buy the license online before you leave like quicksilver suggested. You print it out and stuff it in your pocket. You never have to step foot in a store, it's the ultimate in convenience. You just have to be sure of your dates.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Yeah it is the way to do it and I did that last time I went to Idaho. I also rely on the super market cause my first day after arrival at JC is a trip to the grocery store for goodies and such. Also it gives me an opportunity to say hello to the MCCall air folks and pick up any helpful bits of new info on the back country strips I'm going into. In any case getting a license is now easier when done on line. :D

Just an FYI. I went and spent the night at Graham last night. On the way in there was quite a bit of smoke coming from what looked like the Bruce Meadows area, can't tell that for sure but in that general area. Have a second look at TFR's before launching. With the southerly wind direction the smoke was headed towards the Sulphur Creek area.
