Grand Canyon Airport
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
Has anyone been into GCN in a bit? Planning a hiking/camping trip with the wife at the end of next month and debating making a plane trip or going on the aluminum tube. I have my preference but she gets a vote, haha.
I planned a 2-day trip out there from home that takes me around most of the big hills. How's the weather typically at the end of March? From the Amarillo area we'd be coming west just south of ABQ and then straight west to Prescott to see some friends. Then north to the canyon.
Thanks!

An unforcast snow storm forced our flight of six medevac Huey's down five miles east. We were on our way to do the medevac for Golden Eagle 82. Some of us started pitching tents, but Tom Horan got the airport to contact the Forest Service. CW3 Dave Trujillo was a Forest Engineer in real life. They hauled us to a very nice Holiday Inn. The woods were nice but we didn't camp. Also missed our normal RON at Las Vegas.

Spring winds get pretty nasty in April and May. March ought to be great

Land and stay in Williams AZ. Then take the train to the Canyon and get robbed! Your family will love it.

I flew in there July '15 w my daughter on the way to CA. We overnighted on the rim. Had an absolute blast! One of the most fun stops we made!
Took off from DTO and stopped in ABQ for gas then GCN.
I had about 300 hrs flt time and it was a piece of cake
