Grand Canyon Bar Ten Airstrip (1Z1)?

Does anyone know anything about this airstrip? We were thinking of stopping in to check it out, and maybe staying a day or two if they have any sleeping space available.

I stayed there years ago. Nice people, good food, and great views.

Looking at that web site makes me want to go sooner than next month.

It might be kinda fun sleeping in a covered wagon...one of those things that you don't have a chance to do very often.

Sounds good! How was the runway? I'm trying to figure out the best route to take to get there coming in from Laughlin. Maybe just follow the river north till around Boulder City and head east just north of Pearce Ferry (L25)? I'm waiting to get the map of the airspace over the Grand Canyon before trying to figure it out.

Thanks for your input guys! :)

Bar Ten

I flew there from St. George and was surprised to find a paved runway almost the complete length, maybe 4000ft. There was a big Dornier 228 Turboprop there with 18 tourists and 2 pilots out of vegas. They went to the rim, ate lunch with us and then split. The Propjet was off the groung way before the dirt section started as we saw no dust.

One of the ranch hands told me that they planned on finishing the paving soon to almost 5000ft. None of the sectionals I had looked at the time showed a paved strip but it is. Looks brand new too.

Great place and friendly people. I'm going back soon.
