That is not correct. You must have permission from a resident at Treeport and you have to fill out an "acknowledgement"/waiver form. This form has always been in existence but not enforced until now. If folks do not want to fill out the form they will be ask not to come back.
Treeport is a private runway for use of it's residents and their guest. The owner's that make up the Treeport Homeowner's Assoc. paid a lot of money for the privilege of living here. We are not trying to be turds but there has been folks using our runway for back country training and until a stop was put to it, one school made as many as 10 takeoff and landings a day.
We pay a lot of money for runway maintenance and liability insurance, which all comes out of the association member's pockets. There was a tragic accident last year buy a pilot that did not have permission to use the runway and we feel things need to tightened up.
Most of the residents at Treeport retired and built homes here so we could fly the back country of Idaho. We have already been sued once by a non-aviator and even when you are right, civil suits cost money. Yes, we know about Idaho's protection clause for back country recreational airstrips. There are still questions as to weather it covers private airstrips. The fact is, even if we were covered, it wouldn't keep us from getting sued. Attorney's cost money and can break the bank very quickly.
If you want to fly into Treeport , just get permission first and ask your host for a waiver form. That form is good indefinitely as long as the tail number and pilot in command stays the same. If the form is not on file, the pilot of the aircraft in question can be trespassed. This not something we want to do, but we have to protect to folks that pay to live here.
