The weather in Northern California is looking pretty good the next few days. Justin (dudestickle) and I are flying up to Gravelly Valley to camp. Anyone is welcome to come join us. We will have guns, beer, and tri-tip.... What else would you need on a camping trip? We should be up there by 3:30 or so. Send me a PM if you plan on coming out, even if you aren't camping out.

Probably around 09:00 but the fog will probably be an issue. This morning the airport is IFR and it'll probably be the same tomorrow.

I wrote about Gravelly Valley in my blog (and it is one of the "Fifty Classics" my book) but I got taken to task yesterday for making a joke about meth labs in the area. I really offended someone who visits there often who told me I don't deserve to be able to visit the place.

The interesting thing is once when we were there the place was swarming with helicopters and fixed wing. They had just executed a large drug bust but a few armed men got away and they were search for them. In addition, the store owner once told me they regularly use the airport to run drugs.

So I changed the blog post - no reason to offend anyone - but I still have a feeling there are drug operations in the area. Why wouldn't there be? If I wanted to make/grow/run drugs that would be a great place.

I went camping at Gravelly Valley in the mid 80's...at about 0230 the field began to come alive with auto traffic, dust in the air, noise and commotion, not a thought to the few campers. They spaced themselves to light the runway. At about 0245 a light twin came in, did not shut down, spent maybe 8 min on the ground and departed. We had no doubt what we had seen....

Flybikeski it was just rob and I but we both purchased your book so it was almost like it was your fault!
