Gravelly Valley Work Day, Sep 12/13 UPDATE

We have been OK'ed by the District Ranger to camp our group on the north end, the "19" end of the runway. We will have an out house there for us to use also.

HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT AND REMEMBER:

-NO OPRN FIRES OR CHARCOLE FIRES, only camp stoves with a shout off valve.
- AirNave web page "1Q5" http://www.airnav.com/airport/1Q5.
-There is a TFR to the south by Clear Lake from the surface to 9000 feet.
- It will be hot so bring water and drinks.
- The camp ground on the south end of the strip will be open to us at NO CHARGE if you would like to car camp there.
- Bring gloves, shovels, rakes and picks if you have them.
- Remember to fly over once to let everyone on the ground know you will be landing.
- The Frequency for Gravely is "122.9".
- There are no stores or restaurants within walking distance so bring in all your food, drinks and ICE.
- Normal landing is from the south in over the lake. Take off is to the south back out over the lake.

I am expecting over 20 aircraft to be arriving over Friday and Saturday so be alert and on the radio so everyone knows who is where.

This is looking to be a great weekend to enjoy other people that like air-camping and back country airstrips. I look forward to meeting everyone of you.

Re: Gravelly Valley Work Day, Sep 12/13 UPDATE

Since it's going to be about 107 here today I don't really feel like flying up to Gravelly today. I'll fly up first thing tomorrow morning. Is anyone else flying up from the south tomorrow?

Also, the TFR by Clear Lake is no longer active.

Rob:

The kids and I plan to head up early tomorrow as well. Probably stop at KVCB and fill up on some of that $3.96 avgas. We'll be in the 205, Al is putting my Sportsman kit on the 180.

I am driving up early Saturday with a drag.

If you want me to haul anything let me know.

46 years of flying in there, have never driven in before.

Had a great weekend meeting news friends. Exciting flight out on Sunday afternoon.
Great dinner at Nancys. Let's do it again, next time without the fire!

Re: Gravelly Valley Work Day, Sep 12/13 UPDATE

To all of those wonderful vollenteers that came out and worked their butts off.

THANKS SO MUCH.

It was a great weekend and the District Ranger is VERY happy with the result. We have established a great working relationship for the future of Gravelly Airstrip.

Things were marginal for departure on Sunday and I can say everyone got home safely. I have talked to most everyone personally and "Alls Well That Ends Well".

Thanks again.

I had a great time meeting everyone and being part of such a well organized and productive fly-in!

Here is a video of "before and after" notice the nice white runway markers on take off and how much the surface was improved!

Great work

Re: Gravelly Valley Work Day, Sep 12/13 UPDATE

Hawk & I stopped by Gravelly Valley this week, and it is a different and better place because of the work party that Rich Lach & the RAF organized.

I taxied most of the runway so you guys/gals can see the phenomenal job the volunteers did over the weekend.

Thanks for your effort!
